This blog is all about my life and where it intersects with food. The hunger of, the seeking of, the prep and the sharing and eating of food. Some of the most memorable moments of my whole existence revolve around food. The smells that immediately transport me back to that particular memory that will never fade with time. Almost always the food is at it’s most simple. The evocative smell of freshly baked bread, the hard ,sharp feel of the crust , the sound, the almost deafening crunch as my teeth tear through the blackened top layer of bread and butter. Always butter. Everything tastes better with butter. Myrtle Allen tells a good story about the young woman delivering the butter to Ballymaloe. She thanked her for the “particularly good butter that had been delivered last week, the young woman replied ” Oh yes, that field gives very sweet milk”. Sometimes the answer lies in the fields.
